"The Art of LifeLong Learning" by Marilyn Stauber. 

A show of fine art paintings and sculptures by long term

Emerald Art Center member, Marilyn Stauber.

For as long as she can remember, she has felt a deep urge to create. As a first-grader she was invited to the principal’s office to proudly showcase a drawing.  Later as a mother of four she transitioned from land use planning into a lifelong artistic journey. She was captivated by the creative challenge, the puzzles of composition, and the profound "high" that accompanies a finished piece that turns out great.

Now as a great-great grandmother her exhibition, "The Art of Life Long Learning," reflects my enduring curiosity and upbeat view of life. As a detail-oriented artist, she strives to remain true to herself both in how she lives and what she places on the canvas. She has immersed herself in exploring nearly every medium—oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and porcelain paints. This exploration builds upon a diverse multi-decade artistic foundation that includes crafting textile wall hangings, sculpting bronze, and award-winning porcelain dolls.

No matter the medium, her realistic work is driven by a love for rich, exciting, and alive colors. Her surroundings—from the melodies of the piano to the blossoming roses and perennials in her backyard garden to her great grandkids—serve as a constant inspiration. This joy is channeled through her choice of subjects: vibrant florals, delicate ballet dancers, spirited children, fresh fruit, and sweeping gardens.

Throughout her journey, she has been deeply fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors. At the University of Oregon Andrew Vincent instilled a deep appreciation for rich color, while at Lane Community College, Adam Grosowsky challenged and pushed her technical boundaries. Her watercolor techniques were influenced by Satoko, and her dimensional instincts were sharpened under the guidance of sculptors Ellen Tykeson and Bill Blix. Their combined influence helped refine her voice and gave her the tools to seamlessly weave joyful spirit into her art.

Ultimately, art should be a welcoming space. Her greatest hope is that her paintings provide a sense of comfort and a feeling of genuine well-being to everyone who looks at them. As she shares this collection at the Emerald Art Center—a community she is  proud to have served as a Board Member and Class Coordinator—her goal is to leave a legacy of work that is viewed as products of a life well lived.

Corla Bertrand is showing "Whispers of Soul Desires." She is grateful to be able to share this collection of hand-cut photo collages that reflect and embody her personal experience of her inner world in contrast to the everyday world.  The presentation acts as a visual vessel, externalizing highly abstract phenomena such as dreams, synchronistic events and waking visions, into physical form. Her hope is that her work will "strike a chord" and evoke something similar within viewers.
