Catt Foy "Journeys: Across Time and Space"
Catt Foy - Writer, Artist, Spiritual Consultant.
Foy has a number of influences in her full life, and her artwork will be showcased at the Emerald Art Center this June, as the featured artist. In her show, “Journeys: Across Time and Space,” Foy says she will “explore sacred places where I’d like to go, places of my ancestors, the art of my ancestors and other ancient art, and one of my spirit guardian animals.”
Foy began her artwork at an early age. “Art was always a natural expression for me, from the crayon years and beyond,” she said. She had worked professional art shows at age 17, but by 19 had stopped painting altogether.
“Life, marriage, and children intervened,” Foy said. “Later, I was able to return to college and I rewarded myself each semester with an art class. There I got back in touch with my inner artist.”
“I have since learned that art of all kinds is about your personal creative expression and not created to impress others. Every artist has something unique to contribute.
As Foy has matured, so has her artwork, combining with her other interests to show elements of her life and history.
“I love sunsets and silhouettes and sacred places,” Foy says. “I have been inspired by my shamanic training, learning to travel across space and time and bring back things of value.”
“I have also discovered a new expression in my work: the abstract. I love the freedom of it, and I see a sort of continuity in the dancing images on the paper.”
See Foy’s work in the Cyd and Casey Woodard Gallery thru June. Opening reception will be during the Second Friday Art Walk, June 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Emerald Art Center, 500 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon.
