The Art of Lorraine Austin

I have been doing watercolors for twenty-two years and have attended workshops with nationally known artists Rebecca Mann of Utah (twice), Barbara Nechis of California (twice), Betty Carr of Arizona (twice), Dale Laitinen of California, Ann Pember of New York and Val Persoon of Washington (twice).
From this vicinity, my teachers were Nora Waler, Ellen Gabehart, Jean Hammond-Elliott, Lavonne Tarbox-Crone, Richard Quigley, Miwako, etc. Awards I have received are from Springfield Filbert Festival, Lane County Fair and Emerald Art Gallery.

I was in the Corvallis Yard Sale every August since 2000. Valley River Center whenever they had a show there and River Road Park & Recreation for 3 years. LaVelle Winery had a reception for me and one month showing of my art. Also, my work is throughout the country. I've been chosen to be one of eighteen in Jerry Williams' quARTerly Magazine for their 2007 Spring issue, "Spring is all about Flowers". It was a juried show about celebrating flowers. In fact, I've been juried many times in the past.

Eleven years ago, I suffered a stroke. I thought I would never paint again, but Barbara Nechis gave me encouragement and showed me how I could paint with my left hand. Now, I paint with confidence and teach watercolor classes at Emerald Art Center and River Road Park and Recreation.

I've been a member of Emerald Art Center for 22 years and during this time, served on the board, been class and workshop coordinator and for 5 years (2001 - 2006), been their Newsletter Editor.

Memberships: Emerald Empire Art Association (Emerald Art Center), Watercolor Society of Oregon and Corvallis Art Guild.
