JoAnn Chartier is an award winning painter, sculptor, printmaker and published writer. She's been making art since the age
of 10 and later earned a degree with honors at California State University, Sacramento. She worked as a reporter in print
and as anchor / talk show host in broadcst news, has taught oil and acrylic painting techniques to adults and children.
As CSUS she studied with Steve Kaltenbach and Jack Ogden, working in clay with Kaltenbach and doing independent
study in painting with Ogden. She studied printmaking with John Hamilton and painting with Pam Johnson at
Sierra College, where she had her first solo show at the student gallery. Over the years, Chartier has been included in
numerous invitational and competitive shows and received a number of awards, including Bronze awards in Traditional
and Contemorary painting at the Art of California Discovery show.
Researching, writing, and publishing four non-fiction books about women in the old West with co-author Chris Enss interrupted Chartier's visual arts career for a few years; when she retired from broadcasting in 2005 and moved to rural Oregon. She then returned to her first love: painting.
Chartier teaches classes in oil and acrylic painting at Emerald Art Center.
