Margaret Plumb
is a native Oregonian and lives near Eugene, OR. She specializes in fine arts; mostly impressionistic realism, and has been called a color expressionist, known for her vivid, saturated palette and bold, free, lively brushwork. She has been influenced mostly by the French Impressionists as well as the early 20th century California Impressionist Movement, Post-impressionism and Fauvism. Margaret, her husband and 4 children, spent several years in the Silverton/Salem area, then moved to Bellingham, Washington and finally settled near Eugene in 1993. Over the years she studied art at Chemeketa Community College and Lane Community College-- basic art, drawing, watercolor, design and layout-- and has taken numerous design and painting classes and workshops. Simultaneously, while raising a family and continuing her education and practice of art, her creative bent took her on the path of music both as a hobby and a career. She started seriously pursuing art again about seven years ago, and since then has been painting like there's no tomorrow. "When I paint I am absorbed into the process, time is weightless and my mind is engaged in the now. I work freely and intuitively in the moment, leaving behind angst to just enjoy the creative process. There is something about the brush strokes on canvas or wood that is therapeutic to me. I dream about brush strokes. I love color the way some people love chocolate. Painting, and particularly painting en plein air, makes me feel alive and happy." Margaret is also a self-employed working artist; doing consignment work, commissions and graphic design. She works for Discovery Maps, designing and illustrating artistic tourist maps for cities around the U.S., and also paints/designs sets for plays, including many years of work for Springfield High School's Drama Department.
