I've been creating art throughout my life in varying forms. I remember as a child the sheer joy of doing all sorts of art at day camp, including mosaic tile ash trays, hand built clay objects, you know what I'm talking about. In Middle school and High school my favorite classes were art classes, where I was exposed to an incredible variety of art forms though it was never on my radar screen to be an "artist".
I absolutely love rich vibrant colors, geometric patterns, curvilinear shapes, and the incredible beauty of nature itself. I find art to be incredibly sensuous, whether experienced through sight, sound, or touch. I am very tactile and love working in a variety of mediums whether feeling clay in my hands, discovering the incredible lusciousness of wet cherry bark while making a basket, or running my hands and eyes over the curves of a beautifully designed and finely finished piece of furniture.
I was first introduced to oil painting through private lessons when I was eleven and continued into my early teens. In my mid 20s I moved to Eugene and took several more years of oil painting lessons from Nicola, an incredibly talented oil painter from London, England.
In between now and then I have designed and built beautiful handcrafted furniture under the name of Wood Harmony. I've also been a forestland hydrologist, acquired a BS in geology, an MS in environmental studies, and AAS in legal studies. Art is my love. I think I finally get it; thank you Universe.
Oil painting has once again surfaced for me. The majority of my work is abstract though I also paint landscapes and seascapes, and whatever else inspiration leads me to. I enjoy using a variety of brushes, palette knives and an occasional finger to create incredible softness and contrasting boldness. My intention is to paint with, and instill in my paintings uplifting positive energy, so that people feel that energy when they view my paintings and take it with them when they go.
